On Sunday 7 June, hundreds of farms across the UK will open their gates and welcome in the public to talk to farmers, learn about where food comes from and meet the animals.

A particularly exciting opportunity for kids who until now have only seen a cow or pig in 2D, to learn about growing the oats and wheat that go into our breakfast cereals and bread, looking after the cattle and hens that produce our milk and eggs, and rearing the meat that ends up as sausages, or a Sunday roast.

An annual event, organised by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), also offers families the chance to see cows being milked, take a tractor ride and to dig up potatoes and pick sweet English strawberries.
