PJ Harvey is recording her ninth album, ‘Recording in Progress’. And not just in any studio – in the former rifle range and gymnasium of the (wait for unlikely juxtaposition) Inland Revenue, London. Now part of Somerset House, the studio space has become an architectural installation, thanks to in-house designers Something & Son. The studio is a box, with one-way glass, through which can be seen PJ Harvey, her band, and the entire crew of producers and engineers at work. The idea was PJ Harvey’s, who wanted the project to be like an exhibition in the gallery; in collaboration with Artangel and Somerset House, that’s now a reality. At once a recording studio and a sound sculpture, it’s a unique venue, and an unusual opportunity to see the artist at work. Tickets sold out within minutes when they went on sale earlier this month – more have just been released today. Be fast!
Open until 14 February. Tickets £15 (£12 concessions). Visitors are admitted in 45 minute time slots. somersethouse.org.uk/recordinginprogress
