Introducing DIRTY MONEY: announcement in The Bookseller
By Staff, 13th February 2024Features The first quotes are in for my new Farrow & Chang series, publishing with Baskerville in early 2025
Melula
Beautifully-crafted, fun, and gender-neutral, Melula is a new shoe design concept from Scandinavian creatives Louise Møllermark and Søren Hougesen.
They say: “Conventional kids’ shoes often exhibit a variety of conceptual errors: Too stiff, exaggerated supportive elements and generic pattern design. As a result, they often get clumsy, stiff and the aesthetic gets lost.”
We say: Quite possibly the perfect pair.
The Fourth Trimester
“Supporting life after birth”, this brand-new publication was the dream of journalism graduate and new mum Amy Rose.
They say: “The dream: to create a print magazine for mums by mums telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth about motherhood.”
We say: A charming collection of illustrations, and musings on the big M: a welcome change from many of the mummy mags on the market.
Lost in the Wilderness
Shot over five years, ‘Lost in the Wilderness’ by British photographer Kalpesh Lathigra tells the history of the American West from the Native American perspective.
He says: “In one sense I wanted to show the troubles that these people face – alcoholism, domestic violence, gang culture and poverty. Yet there’s also great hope in the images because the people are still very connected to their history.”
We say: Beautiful, haunting images which tell an important and often unheard story.
Amelia’s Colouring Companion
After running Amelia’s Magazine for more than a decade, mother-of-two Amelia Gregory decided to launch Amelia’s Colourful Colouring Companion, for adults, featuring 40 artists.
She says: “Colouring in is an extremely easy way to be creative without having to do too much thought or planning and is not nearly as daunting as being faced with a blank piece of paper.”
We say: A gentle, calming antidote to the frenzied pace of modern life – and a nice activity to share with your kids.
What Does Breastfeeding Look Like
As an antidote to glamourised images of new motherhood, courtesy of the likes of Gisele and Nicole Trunfio, Melbourne-based photographer Suzie Blake shoots women breastfeeding in a natural environment. She has been raising funds to take her project around the world, before publishing them in a book.
They say: “It’s not about criticising those models who feature in glamorous breastfeeding shoots, but rather provide an alternative which mothers will better relate to.”
We say: We love the natural beauty of these shots, and the idea of celebrating normal women doing what is not always a widely-rewarded job.
