This is a selection of mine and Arlo Lion’s jams. It’s a mixture of songs that are very visual, and hopefully have his imagination running wild. Some I’ve chosen because they have such beautiful lyrics that I enjoy singing to him. Music is a huge part of our lives and Arlo has already been to a couple of gigs at our record shop, Lion, in Clapton, East London (the shop is named after him). Courtney Love was the first – when he was four months old. Then Gruff Rhys ! Next up is Neil Young in San Francisco – that’ll be his first big outdoor gig! This kid is gonna know how to rock n roll.

Blur – Tender
This was on my birth playlist and we played it just before Arlo was born. It got VERY emotional!
Florence + the Machine – Wild Wild Life (Talking Heads cover)
Arlo’s favourite video – Aunty Florence and Daddy covering Talking heads! In animal costumes! THE DREAM. He looks at me in amazement whenever he watches it, and laughs his head off.
Hole – Violet
Arlo’s first gig was Courtney Love, when she played an intimate gig at our record shop Lion, in Clapton, East London.
Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book
I was obsessed with this as a child so it’s Arlo’s turn now.
Beck – Where it’s at
He’s particularly fond of the lyric ‘YOU GOT TWO TURN TABLES AND A MICROPHONE’ and ‘JUST CLAP YOUR HANDS’ – he can now clap his hands on cue!
David Bowie – Sound and Vision
I like to sing this very loudly while we’re in the car!
You Give A Little Love from Bugsy Malone
The Tokens – The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Arlo’s bedtime song – we have a Lion thats sings this song, he’s mesmerised.

Paul Simon – Me and Julio

Bob Dylan – Wigwam

Devendra Banhart – Little Yellow Spider
I adore Devendra’s story-telling lyrics. He has the most wonderful child-like imagination.

Inheritance Tracks

Velvet Underground – I’m sticking with you
I want him to inherit my love for the Velvet Underground.
“I’ll do anything for you, anything you want me to! Oooh woooh I’m sticking with you!” Just Beautiful.
Talking Heads – This Must be the place (Naive Melody)
One of my all time favourite songs – it’s the ultimate love song! I sing the Lyric SING INTO MY MOUTH into Arlo’s mouth and it makes us both happy.
